As the city and state grapple with how to make financial ends meet, the debate about the potential for laying off 8,500 city public school teachers is outrageous and must not happen.
Teachers are the core of education in this city, state and nation and to even consider cuts of any kind to the education system in this country is unheard of. Where are all of those blowhard, do-nothing politicians in Washington now? They should be at the forefront of fighting intensely to see that cuts to education are not made.
It was recently predicted by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan that as many as 100,000 teachers could lose their jobs nationwide. This will not be tolerated by the teachers, administrators, parents and students of our nation.
We seem to have money for everything else, but when it comes to education, nobody gives a darn.
