Teri Pouymari has held the job of civic group president for four years, heading up the Auburndale Improvement Association as a 30-year member of the active organization.

Now state Sen. Frank Padavan (R-Bellerose) has made sure she gets some of the gratitude her neighbors and colleagues know she deserves.

On May 25, Pouymari was recognized at a ceremony in the State Capitol in Albany during which she was awarded the 2010 Woman of Distinction Award.

The award honors women who have served their communities extensively and maintained excellence in their personal and professional pursuits.

“Teri Pouymari symbolizes the values, principles and character that the Woman of Distinction Award is all about,” Padavan said.

She worked as a history teacher for more than 30 years at Newton High School in Elmhurst and is an active member, along with her husband, John, of St. Kevin’s Parish in Auburndale.

“Teri’s energy, care and compassion for our community knows no bounds. The Auburndale community and all of northeast Queens have benefited greatly from Teri’s services on behalf of her neighbors,” Padavan said.
