Riviera Ristorante – good food, service

The recently opened Riviera Ristorante in Whitestone occupies the site of the former Il Fagiano, which locals enjoyed for many years. Riviera continues the tradition of good Italian food and good service in a family friendly atmosphere. The new owner, Danny, worked at the former restaurant for many years, and brings his experience to the table.

We began our meal with the cold antipasto, Caesar salad, and a chopped salad. The salads were delicious and we devoured them with great gusto. Next came the hot antipasto, which included grilled and fried calamari, grilled vegetables, shrimp and baked clams. Everything was scrumptious, and we cleaned the plate. We enjoyed the wine while our main courses were being freshly prepared

Our party ordered grilled salmon, a large veal chop, veal Marsala, chicken Scarpariello, chicken parmigiana and grilled shrimp. We all sampled each other’s food. Hands were flying across the table as we dug into the food. The veal Marsala was pronounced the winner at our table, but there weren’t any losers and once again all the food quickly disappeared.

Oh, and as you would expect, the portions were generous and came with vegetables or pasta.

The deserts, made on the premises, included homemade Italian cheesecake and tiramisu.

All in all, we had a delicious dinner and enjoyed the casual atmosphere and friendly service. We left this wonderful restaurant with goodbyes from our host Danny and his attentive staff.
