The Queens Hospital Center (QHC) Farmer’s Market received a visit from a much younger crowd than usual.
Lisa Rossdale of the Queens Center for Progress Preschool Program for Learning and Enrichment (APPLE) brought her youngsters ranging from three to five years old on a field trip to the market on Thursday, August 5.
The students learned about the importance of a healthy diet from Dr. Marcy Stein-Albert, director of pediatrics at QHC located at 82-68 164th Street in Jamaica. Additionally, they learned about different fruits and vegetables that grow on farms from farmer John Pahucki of DO RE ME farms located in upstate New Hampton.
The market is open to the public every Thursday, rain or shine, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through November 18. The APPLE program is designed for children between the ages of three and five with disabilities.
The Queens Center for progress offers services to increase development of children’s motor, social and language skills. Of the approximate one hundred participants, a majority enter the public school system upon completion of the program.
