Police were looking for any information on who opened fire on a South Jamaica street early Saturday morning, killing one man and sending a woman to the hospital.
The incident took place around 1 a.m. on 140th Avenue and 157th Street, where officers found the victims with gunshots throughout their bodies, police said.
The male victim, identified by the New York Post as James Zipman, 33, of Brooklyn, was rushed to Jamaica Hospital but died a short time afterwards from shots to his torso, according to police.
The unidentified 28-year-old woman was also rushed to the hospital with a gunshot to her shoulder, but was listed in stable condition, investigators said.
Residents of the residential block ,located close to John F. Kennedy International Airport, said everything was quiet until they heard the gunshots ring out.
“I came out when I heard [the shots] and I looked outside and the police cars were there,” said a resident who lives right near where the two people were shot and who asked not to be identified.
“I thought I was dreaming,” she said
Police had not found the shooter as of press time and the investigation was ongoing.
There has been a rash of violent attacks that have stemmed from large parties in southeast Queens over the last few months, but neighbors said there was no gathering that night.
“We don’t really have that stuff around here,” a neighbor said.
