Things are looking up for Flushing High School.
After being named to the state Department of Education’s list of the state’s 57 persistently lowest-achieving schools in January, a designation which could have led to its conversion into a charter school or its shuttering, it is now off that list, according to state Sen. Toby Stavisky (D-Whitestone).
Now that it has been removed from the Schools Under Registration Review list — where it landed for having a below-par graduation rate — the school has been put into a “transformation” program, through which it will likely receive extra funding and other assistance in order to improve in coming years, Stavisky said.
“What impressed me is that everyone is pulling together in the same direction — the parents, the principals, the teachers — and that’s what I think should always happen,” she said. “There’s a lot of parent involvement, and that’s very important.”
