On Sunday, September 26, Senator Joseph Addabbo sponsored a free health fair at Nativity B.V.M. Church, located at 101-41 91st Street in Ozone Park.
A vast array of free services was provided by 21 vendors, ensuring that individuals have the tools they need to lead healthy and active lives. Vendors included Queens Hospital Center, Pearle Vision, EPIC, Jamaica Hospital, AIDS Center of Queens County, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Food Bank of NY, Ozone Park Kiwanis, Cross Bay Chemist, and Dr. Musnik, chiropractor.
Eighty residents from the surrounding area attended the event, and were able to avail themselves of such free services as bone density and eye check-ups, blood pressure and glucose screenings, chiropractic exams, as well as a private HIV/AIDS/STD screenings. In addition, information was available on smoking cessation, nutrition, bed bugs, cancer, food stamps and more. Community health professionals were also on hand to answer general questions and provide information on applying for Medicare, Medicaid, EPIC, Child Health Plus, and Family Health Plus.
“This event benefited families and people of all ages by providing them with the vital health care services and information they need,” said Addabbo. “It is necessary that individuals have access to quality, affordable and essential health care services. Too often, lack of access to routine services and information can lead individuals to neglect their health. I hope this event highlighted the numerous resources in the community to help individuals and families provide for their well-being.”
