ST. ALBANS — An Addisleigh Park man was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs after he allegedly admitted to an officer that he was smoking marijuana, a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Jamal Walls, 19, of 117-20 Smith St. in Addisleigh Park, was sitting in a parked Hyundai by Farmers Boulevard and 115th Avenue in St. Albans at around 12:40 a.m. Jan. 7 when an officer approached the car and noticed he had bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech and a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.
The officer claimed Walls was unsteady on his feet when exiting the Hyundai and told the officer, “I was picking somebody up and I was smoking marijuana earlier and I have cotton-mouth.”
Walls was arraigned Jan. 7 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Suzanne Melendez, who released him on his own recognizance on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the spokeswoman said.
Walls is next expected to return to court Feb. 3, the spokeswoman said.
