Footwear for the family

From warm Ugg boots to the latest Nike sneakers, Shoe Village has been offering New Yorkers and beyond a large selection of footwear for the entire family for the past 30 years.

“We’re trying to make the store a destination shop for any kind of shoes and footwear,” said general manager Peter Song Jr. “We have everything from children’s shoes to ladies shoes so you don’t have to go all the way out to the city and shop at different stores.”

Song’s father started the family business 30 years ago – and the 10,000 square-foot location at 45-22 162nd Street in Flushing has been open for the past four years. Song, a certified pedorthist, said he and his staff strive to be proactive with customers and offer them suggestions on the best shoes to wear.

Shoe Village also has an iStep machine, which scans feet and shows things such as arch type and the condition of the feet. Song said the machine helps recommend insoles that are geared toward each individual’s foot comfort.

They are a “Shop-in-Shop” location for brands such as Ugg, which enables them to carry more inventory and special styles, designs, and colors compared to a regular shop. The business also carries wide-width shoes as well as smaller sizes.

“Sometimes it’s hard to find smaller sizes for men and women like a size four in women so we specialize in that,” he said.

In addition to the wide selection of footwear, the store also has a special “buy one, get one 50 percent off” section available all year. The store’s web site, www.shoevillage.com also offers free shipping for purchases over $50.

Shoe Village carries popular brands such as MBT, Puma, and Nike, as well as those a bit harder to find, like La Canadienne. Song also said the business is known for carrying wellness and toning footwear such as renowned brand MBT, which Song said is the original brand that started the trend of toning shoes like the similar Sketchers Shape Ups.

The business also recently started selling Ugg clothing, such as jackets, shawls, scarves and hats. Shoe Village sells shoe accessories, waterproofing sprays, and licensed kids’ clothing such as Hello Kitty raincoats.
