JAMAICA — DNA evidence was used to catch a Bronx man who reportedly broke into a woman’s apartment and stole her belongings, the Queens district attorney’s office said.
Wilberto Rodriguez, 39, of Webster Avenue, was arraigned May 4 on burglary, criminal mischief and petit larceny charges, the Queens DA’s office said.
The tenant of an apartment building at 150-09 88th Ave. was away from her home between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Aug. 6, and when she returned home she saw that her door had been forced open, the lock broken and jewelry missing from her home, the criminal complaint said.
Officers discovered a chisel at the crime scene and took it to a police lab for analysis, the criminal complaint said.
Investigators were able to match DNA found on the tool to Rodriguez, whose DNA was on police file for a previous case, according to the criminal complaint.
