Man caught in another’s car tried to steal it: DA

JAMAICA — A Queens Village man was charged with attempted grand larceny and unauthorized use of a vehicle after he allegedly opened the door of someone’s car in Jamaica and sat in the driver’s seat, a spokeswoman for the Queens district attorney said.

Mark Coleman, 22, of 227-39 113th Ave. in Queens Village, allegedly entered the vehicle around 7:30 p.m. March 2 at the northwest intersection of Jamaica Avenue and 173rd Street in Jamaica when the car’s owner spotted him, according to the criminal complaint.

The owner then entered the car through the front passenger side, allegedly startling Coleman and causing him to exit the vehicle, the complaint said.

Coleman was arraigned May 5 on charges of attempted grand larceny and unauthorized use of a vehicle before Queens Criminal Court Judge John Zoll, who released the defendant on his own recognizance, the spokeswoman said.

Coleman is next scheduled to appear in court June 21.
