A 15-year-old boy was arrested after bringing a fake gun to Flushing High School Friday.
Police responded to the school at 9:40 a.m. Friday and found that the boy, whose name is being withheld because he is a minor, had brought a black, imitation Uzi toy gun to school, police said.
The gun’s red tip had been drawn over in black marker, police said, giving the gun a more realistic, uniform appearance.
A student aide at the school, at 35-01 Union St., received an anonymous call on the school’s main telephone line, police said. The caller said the student had a gun in his backpack and that he was in Classroom 318, according to police.
The aide then contacted the school’s dean, who located the student in Room 357, where he found the toy gun and a box cutter in his backpack, police said.
The boy was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds. Authorities said there was no indication he displayed the gun or threatened anyone prior to the arrest.
The boy and the toy gun were both being held at the 109th Precinct Friday afternoon, a police source said. The source, who saw the toy, added that it did not appear to be a full-size replica of an Uzi, but rather a smaller version.
