The MTA plans to shut down service for the weekend starting Friday night on the No. 7 subway line between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza in order to permit repairs.
The transit agency said there would be no service between Times Square at 42nd Street and Queensboro Plaza from 11:30 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, Aug.1.
The service curtailment will allow workers to carry out repairs on signal circuits in the Steinway Tunnel beneath the East River. Water leakage has caused corrosion and other problems.
The MTA has provided alternatives.
Straphangers can use N or Q trains for trips between Manhattan and Queens or free shuttle buses, which will be available between Vernon Boulevard/Jackson Avenue and Queensboro Plaza.
Riders also may use Q trains, which will be extended to Astoria-Ditmars Blvd. from 7 a.m.to 9 p.m.on Saturdsay, July 30, and from 9 a.m.to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 31.
In Manhattan, the 42nd Street Shuttle will operate overnight throughout the weekend.
