A newborn baby was found inside a shoebox in front of an Astoria home early Friday morning, according to the NYPD.
Police said they received a call at 7:05 a.m. of an abandoned baby at 21-62 28th St. When they arrived, they found a baby, a girl of either Caucasian or Hispanic race, in front of the house, authorities said.
At about 10 a.m. police had taped off an area in front of the house, which included the brick rail to the front steps where several white and red cut roses lay.
The baby was so young she still had her umbilical cord attached, police said.
After the baby was found, EMS transported the girl to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she was listed in stable condition, police said.
NYPD said they have not found the newborn’s mother. Police have initiated a canvass of hospitals for witnesses and the investigation was ongoing, authorities said.
