Neptune: Not just your average diner

Dora Hatzakos and Peter Katsihpis serve up some of the best food at Neptune Diner.

From the exterior, the Neptune Diner looks like the classic diner, but once inside, to your left, you will see one of the most colorful and beautiful dining rooms that you will see in these eateries.

The room has subdued blue ceiling lighting with tablecloth-covered tables. The service is one rarely seen in any restaurant where the server who takes your order attends to your every need.

The food is first quality and includes a daily choice of three soups, daily specials, fresh fish, which is displayed on a bed of ice as you enter the dining room, and freshly-baked-on-the premises cakes, pies, muffins and their outstanding cheesecake and carrot muffins.

George Katsihtis and his brother Peter have owned and operated the diner for 35 years.

George is a well-known chef who cooks venison stew for his friends. The venison is brought from his upstate farm.

The Neptune Diner has free parking and prices for a bite – breakfast, lunch or dinner – are very reasonable. This has made it the epicenter of Astoria.

The seating capacity of the diner is 130 – 10 tables, 22 booths and a counter of 12 stools.

The entire staff, from Dora, who has been the hostess for 25 years, to the busboys, is extremely friendly and hospitable, as well as multi-lingual.

The location of the diner – at the foot of the Queens side of the Robert F. Kennedy (Triborough) Bridge – makes it conveniently accessible by automobile. The “Astoria Boulevard” station of the “N” line subway is at the door of the diner.

Your visit to the Neptune Diner is a welcoming experience you will richly enjoy.
