Survey says…family fun for the Barrios clan.
The Richmond Hill residents appeared in two episodes of the 13th season of “The Family Feud,” which aired on October 13 and 14 at 2 p.m. on WWOR, channel 9. The family flew to Atlanta, Georgia to film the show in front of a live studio audience.
On the Barrios’ side of the stage were Vicky, a doctoral student at Baruch College’s School of Public Affairs, her sisters Veronica and Vanessa and her cousins Annette and Rose.
“We had an amazing time filming the show,” said Vicky, who admits the taping was nerve-racking. “It was definitely a surreal experience for us, because we could not believe we made it all the way. It was an emotional roller coaster of fun.”
Along with winning money and experiencing the thrill of taping a nationally-televised show, the Barrios family also mingled with one of the original “Kings of Comedy,” Feud host Steve Harvey.
“Steve Harvey is a sweetheart,” Vicky said. “He is hysterical. I liked him before we did the show, and he turned out to be even nicer in person.”
The Barrios family had the opportunity to earn up to $100,000 if they won the fast money round five consecutive times, with each victory paying them $20,000. The family also could have won a brand-new car if they were able to reach the bonus round five shows in a row.
Ultimately, the Barrios’ defeated their opponents in their first appearance, but failed to win fast money, and were eliminated by their challengers during their second attempt. They went home with a total of $585. Prior to taping the shows, the family hoped to use any winnings towards a vacation and paying off their student loans.
“When we didn’t win fast money it was disappointing,” said Vicky. “We really wanted to win, but we were still high on the idea that we were on two episodes of the show. We realize it was just a blessing to be on television and share this with our entire family.”
