LAGUARDIA AIRPORT — A 34-year-old ramp agent for Southwest Airlines at LaGuardia Airport pleaded guilty Tuesday to brutally assaulting his supervisor in August, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Calvin Williams, 34, of Hempstead, L.I., admitted Tuesday to repeatedly hitting his supervisor in the head and body with a metal bar Aug. 2 following an argument the two men had several days earlier, Brown said.
The supervisor was taken to a hospital after he suffered numerous and serious head lacerations that took 24 staples to close, the DA said. He also suffered a broken rib and two fractures to the spinal process of his vertebra, Brown said.
“If co-workers had not been present to pull the defendant away from his victim, the injuries could have been even more horrific,” the DA said. “Such extremely dangerous and outrageous behavior as displayed by the defendant cannot be tolerated and, as evidenced by the expected sentence, will be severely punished.”
Queens Criminal Court Judge Dorothy Chin-Brandt indicated she would sentence Williams to five years in prison and two years’ post-release supervision Jan. 4, 2012, the DA said.
