Richard Italiano, the district manager and former chairman of Community Board 4, has died, Borough President Helen Marshall announced in a statement Thursday.

Italiano was 59. He is survived by his wife Carol and two children. The cause and time of his death have not been yet announced.

Italiano was born in Queens and participated in various community groups such as the Queens Zoning Task Force, the Queens Traffic Safety Board and many hospital advisory boards, Marshall said. He was the current district manager of CB 4 and was chairman of the group from 1993 to 2005.

Italiano was present at CB 4’s last meeting last Thursday.

The borough president described Italiano as “a kind and gentle man” and a “dedicated public servant.”

“He led with grace, quiet effectiveness and a deep desire to make things better for us all,” Marshall said. “Communities like Elmhurst, Corona and, indeed, our entire borough and city were made better because of him.”

Italiano’s wake will be held at the Guida Funeral Home at 47-20 104th Street in Corona on Saturday, Jan. 21 and Sunday, Jan. 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. Leo’s Roman Catholic Church from 104-05 49th Avenue in Corona Monday, Jan. 23 at 11:45 a.m.
