The Benjamin Cardozo Judges (16-3) lost to the Wings Academy Wings (18-1) by a score of 54-46 in the Public School Athletic League (PSAL) ‘A’ Division, “AA.” Senior Ryan Yearwood led the Judges with a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Kyle Credle was second on the team with 10 points, to go along with three rebounds. Senior Edwin Sainvil scored eight points while pulling down four rebounds while senior Tajay Henry scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Long Island City Bull Dogs (18-1) beat the Brooklyn High School for Law And Technology Jets (13-7) by a score of 63-51 in the second round of the Basketball Boys Varsity, 2012 ‘A’ Division Playoff Bracket. Senior Xavier Jones led the Bull Dogs with 20 points while dishing out four assists. Senior Sadi Camara scored 15 points of his own with a total of three assists. Senior Arthur Santanna had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Senior Kevin Green Jr. filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. The Bull Dogs will play the CSIHS/McCown Dragons in the next round.
The Springfield Gardens Golden Eagles (14-3) beat the Dewitt Clinton Governors (14-8) by a score of 63-48. Senior Gregory Williamson led all scorers with 26 points leading the Golden Eagles to victory. Sophomore Dupree McBrayer scored 15 points, pulled down five rebounds and dished out six assists. Senior Eghosa Osagie chipped in with nine points of his own. For the Governors, freshman Donahue Smith had 12 points and 14 rebounds.
In the PSAL ‘B’ League playoffs the Newcomers Lions (16-0) beat the Metropolitan High School Golden Eagles (14-6) by a score of 82-73. For the Lions, sophomore Larry Baez scored 31 points. Senior Sergino Emmanuel who only averaged 4.93 points during the regular season, scored 20 points. Junior Cristian Zapata had a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while dishing out eight assists. Senior Giovanni Pissioni scored nine points, had 10 rebounds and seven assists. Junior Jose Fernandez scored just one point, but was tied for the lead in rebounds with 14 boards.
