Tot Left Behind on the Bus

Say Corona Driver Forgot About Girl

A school bus driver from Corona was cuffed by police last Thursday morning, Apr. 12, for allegedly leaving a two-yearold girl unattended on her parked bus after failing to drop her off at day care, authorities said.

Ana Garcia, 62, of 99th Street was charged with failure to exercise control of a minor. She was released on her own recognizance following arraignment later last Thursday in Queens Criminal Court, according to court records.

Reportedly, Garcia picked up the two-year-old child from her home just after 7 a.m. and was to deliver the tot to a nearby day care facility.

However, it is alleged that the child was still on the bus when Garcia parked the vehicle at the corner of Christie Avenue and 99th Street-in close proximity to the suspect’s home-at around 9 a.m.

Members of the 110th Precinct re- sponded to the location shortly thereafter upon receiving a 911 call regarding a child left alone on the bus.

The officers brought the girl back to the 110th Precinct’s Elmhurst stationhouse, where she was reunited with her mother. Paramedics examined the girl and determined that she was in good physical condition.

Garcia was arrested by police following a subsequent investigation into the case. Reportedly, she claimed that she did not see the child on board upon parking the bus at the Corona location.
