a Gas Main Project on Grandview

National Grid Plans R’Wood Road Dig

National Grid plans to replace a four-block long section of a gas main along Grandview Avenue in Ridgewood, and nearby residents can expect some inconveniences related to the work, it was announced.

In a letter sent to Community Board 5 and forwarded to the Times Newsweekly, National Grid stated that they will soon replace a 2,500′- long stretch of a gas main running below Grandview Avenue between Himrod and Menahan streets.

No timeframe was provide as to when the work will start, but once launched, it will take 90 days to complete. The utility company stated that the pipe replacement is being performed in advance of scheduled street resurfacing.

“The new main will be relocated to the north sidewalk of Grandview Avenue and the west sidewalk of Menahan Street due to interference with other underground utilities,” according to the letter from National Grid.

The work will be performed by Hallen Construction on behalf of National Grid. The company will “maximize available parking” as the project goes on, but “access to the parking lane is required for our work, even though the new main will be in the sidewalk,” it was noted in the letter.

National Grid also pointed out that it will, at times, need access to gas meters and service valves at nearby residences and businesses. If the gas meter or valve is not accessible, such as being obstructed by a wall, the letter indicated that property owners will be required to remove the obstruction so the work can be completed.

Advanced notice will be provided to property owners of when National Grid will need this access, the letter added.
