Four firefighters sustained minor injuries battling a two-alarm blaze in Bayside Tuesday afternoon and were taken to North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System to be treated, fire officials said.
A spokesman for the FDNY said no residents were injured in the fire, which gutted a home on 206th Street near 48th Avenue, but one firefighter said a cat died in the blaze.
Fire officials said a call came in about the fire at about 4 p.m. and the blaze was upgraded to a second-alarm at 4:11 p.m. More than 100 firefighters generally respond to a second-alarm fire.
As firefighters checked for remaining pockets of flames, pieces of wet and charred furniture, as well as belongings including DVDs, were collected in a pile on the home’s front lawn.
At 4:56 p.m, the blaze, which had been concentrated on the second floor, was declared under control.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation Tuesday evening, the spokesman said.
