Women Killed In Hail Of Bullets On Pkwy.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 21-year-old New Jersey woman in a drive-by shooting on the Grand Central Parkway in the vicinity of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park early on Sunday morning, May 13, police said.

Stephanie Taveras, 21, of Nye Avenue in Irvington, N.J. was shot in the head while riding with a Glendale man on the parkway near the Northern Boulevard exit at around 3:30 a.m.

According to published reports, the Glendale man had met Taveras earlier in the evening and had just left a party at his home with her. While they were riding on the parkway in his BMW sedan, it was reported, another vehicle came alongside the car from which multiple shots were fired.

One of the bullets struck Taveras in the head; reportedly, the driver of the BMW sedan exited the parkway and drove her to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she died a short time later.

Members of the 110th Precinct were informed of the incident and part of the Grand Central Parkway was closed on Sunday morning as police investigated the purported scene of the crime.

As of press time, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
