The Long Island Rail Road has issued a reminder that starting Friday night alcoholic beverages will be prohibited aboard trains and platforms between 12 midnight and 5 a.m. The ban also applies on Saturday during the same hours.
All alcoholic beverages, whether in open or closed containers, will be prohibited.
The prohibition will also apply to LIRR station platforms.
The MTA said it will increase numbers of police at Penn Station and throughout the system to enforce the restriction.
The MTA said the move was instituted in an effort to maintain orderly travel.
