Gottschee U7s, U10s Are Taking Trophies Home

Teams Take Crown In Tournaments; U9s Run To Second-Place Finish

The U10A boys capped their successful season by defeating the Elmont Jigs 2-1 in the finals of the ENYYSA State Cup tournament on Saturday, June 23.

The Blau Weiss Gottschee U7 (above) and U10 teams took first place in their respective weekend tournaments.

In a very hard fought match against their longtime rivals, the boys scored two late goals in the final five minutes of the match. The defense, anchored by Eddie Wojnorowski, Joseph Kolarzh and Daniel Curmi, played a strong and smart game the entire way, constantly repelling the Jigs’ attack while permitting few shots on goal. Goalkeeper Justin Silva let a penalty kick go by him, but nothing more.

For the Cosmos, the first goal came from Jeremy Saravia, who moved fluidly into open space to receive a pass from Nick Calderon and drive it by the Elmont goalkeeper to tie the score 1-1 with little time left on the clock.

The boys continued their aggressive attack as the end of regulation to drew close. The hard fought effort paid off, as Matthew Rubinstein drew a free kick a few yards beyond the box, which Matthew Osiecki drilled from long range to seal the victory with less than a minute left on the clock.
