JACKSON HEIGHTS — Two men, one from Jackson Heights and another from Elizabeth, N.J., were arraigned last week on charges of drug possession after state Police Special Investigations Unit officers seized cocaine from them during an investigation in Jackson Heights, the city Special Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office said.
Police were conducting surveillance of 30-year-old Wilmar Florez-Jimenz’s residence, at 81st Street and 30th Avenue, May 14 at 1:20 p.m. when they spotted Elizabeth resident Alvaro Montoya, 51, taking a large plastic garbage bag from the residence into a red Chevy Envoy SUV, the prosecutor’s office said.
After Montoya drove away in the car, police stopped him and allegedly found a modified tire and rim with wrapped-up bundles of narcotics inside, the prosecutor’s office said.
The officers stopped Florez-Jimenz later that day, the prosecutor’s office said. Through a search warrant, they allegedly found cocaine on his person and inside his residence in a dresser with a false back and an oven, as well as $68,000 in cash and numerous types of drug paraphernalia, the prosecutor’s office said.
More cocaine was found in a later search of the Envoy, the prosecutor’s office said.
Both Florez-Jimenz and Montoya were arraigned on multiple charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia, the prosecutor’s office said.
