In observance of the Christian Solemnity of the Ascension, alternateside parking rules will be suspended on Wednesday, Aug. 15. Meter regulations, however, will remain in effect citywide.

Road Work

Because of ongoing construction work at several locations throughout Queens and Brooklyn, the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced numerous street closures in local neighborhoods for the upcoming week.

The announced diversions are current as of Wednesday, Aug. 8. The DOT may shut down other roads should the need for emergency repairs arise.

Streets and highways that are affected by closures during this week include the following:

Bridge Work Affects J. Robinson Pkwy.

One westbound lane of the Jackie Robinson Parkway is closed on at the Myrtle Avenue overpass in Glendale every overnight from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. through Aug. 17 as the DOT removes and replaces underdeck timber shielding. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times.

This work is weather sensitive and rain will force the cancellation of individual night shifts. Drivers are advised to prepare for potential delays.

Repaving In R.H., Woodside, Wdhvn.

Weather permitting, DOT crews will conduct street resurfacing along the following roadways:

– 115th Avenue between 103rd Avenue and Rockaway Boulevard in Richmond Hill and South Ozone Park for paving on Thursday, Aug. 9 and Friday, Aug. 10;

Concrete Work On Cross Bay Bridge

One lane will be closed in each direction most Saturdays at the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge for work related to the $17 million project to rehabilitate the concrete piers beneath the bridge.

The Saturday lane closures, which began on July 28, will take place between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. and continue through November. One lane in each direction had previously been closed on weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to accommodate equipment being used as part of the repair work, and will continue through November as well.

Currently, two northbound lanes into Broad Channel are closed Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and on Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. while heavy cranes, fitted with 4-to-6-foot wide stabilizing bars, are used to lower materials to the work area near the bridge’s north abutment. This part of the project, which is dependent on good weather, is expected to be completed in late August.

The entire project, which includes excising and repairing damaged concrete and shoring up materials that protect the bridge’s concrete abutment, is expected to be completed in November 2013.

Guardrail Work On Cross Bay Boulevard

One to two southbound lanes of Cross Bay Boulevard will be closed between the Joseph P. Addabbo Bridge and East First Road in Broad Channel on weekdays from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. as the D OT installs new guardrails. Bicycle access within the area will be provided throughout the project.

BQE Overpass Work Leaves 1 Lane Open

One lane of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway eastbound will be maintained at Bulova Avenue on one night each week from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. through Aug. 23 as the DOT conducts bridge underdeck work.

Lane Closures On Grand Central Pkwy.

One lane of the Grand Central Parkway will be closed in either direction under the 37th Street overpass on Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Closures will also occur on weekends from 11 p.m. Fridays until 6 a.m. Saturdays and on Sundays from 12:01 to 11 a.m.

Additionally, one lane in each direction of the Grand Central Parkway will be closed between 82nd and 111th streets on weekdays from 12:01 a.m. until 5 a.m., on Saturdays from 1 to 6 a.m. and on Sundays from 1 to 9 a.m. as the DOT conducts maintenance work.

Furthermore, one lane in each direction will be closed on the 44th Street overpass above the Grand Central Parkway in Astoria through February as the DOT conducts bridge repair work.

It was also noted that one lane in each direction of the Grand Central Parkway may be closed under the United Nations Avenue Bridges (between Roosevelt Avenue and the Long Island Expressway) weekdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and again from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. The closures will also take place on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and from 10 p.m. Saturdays until 3 p.m. Sundays.
