For helping to save the life of a man who was drowning in the waters off Howard Beach last month, Sgt. Joseph Kopack and P.O. Seth Jaffe were honored as Cops of the Month during the 106th Precinct Community Council meeting on Sept. 12 at the Ozone Park stationhouse. Reportedly, Kopack and Jaffe responded to Frank Charles Park, located off 165th Avenue between 95th and 99th streets, during the early evening hours of Aug. 31. The victim, who had been pulled out of the North Channel by parkgoers, was unconscious, and Kopack and Jaffe worked to resuscitate him with the use of CPR and an automatic defibrillator. The officers were able to revive the victim by the time paramedics arrived. The man was hospitalized and is expected to make a recovery. At the Sept. 12 meeting, Deputy Inspector Thomas Pascale, the precinct’s commanding officer (at right), and Precinct Council President Frank Dardani (at left) presented Kopack (second from right) and Jaffe with Cop of the Month plaques donated by the Times Newsweekly in recognition of their life-saving efforts.
