He Throws In Towel on Robbery Bid

Crook Leaves Without $ In Failed F.H. Heist

Hoping to get a case-solving tip from a member of the public, police released last Thursday, Sept. 20, the image of the towel-toting man (at right) who unsuccessfully tried to hold up a bank in Forest Hills last month.

Law enforcement sources said the failed caper took place at 11:45 a.m. on the morning of Aug. 31 at the Citibank branch located at 107-01 71st Ave.

According to police, the perpetrator- described as a caucasian male in his 30s standing 5’7″-tall, weighing 180 lbs., wearing a white shirt, shorts and sunglasses while holding a white towel-entered the branch and approached a teller.

While at the counter, authorities said, the suspect passed the employee a note demanding cash. Seconds later, however, the would-be crook fled from the scene on foot empty handed, it was reported.

Members of the 112th Precinct responded to the scene. There were no injuries.

The case was later presented to the NYPD Major Case Squad for further investigation, police said.
