Commercial business took it over until the 1970s, when the GRHS was founded to restore, maintain and operate the Onderdonk House as a historic site and museum.

The Onderdonk House is open to the public on Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m. and by reservation. It can be reached by take the L train to Jefferson Street, then walking five blocks east on Flushing Avenue; the Q54 bus on Metropolitan Avenue to Flushing Avenue, then walking two blocks west on Flushing Avenue; or the B57 bus on Flushing Avenue, which stops in front of the landmark.

On street parking is available, plentiful and free.
