Met fans, notorious for their cynical optimism, are getting ready for another season riddled with questions.
With the recent news that Johan Santana might be out for the entire season, fans outside Citi Field today don’t have high hopes for the team.
“If they win 75 games,” said Ken Jones of Long Island, “It’ll be a lot.”
Jones, who’s been to more than 20 Mets opening days, called the 2013 season a rebuilding year for the team and was more looking forward to the next opener.
Fellow fans like Andre, who chose not to give his last name, hopes the Mets will at least fare better than their 74-88 record last year.
“I’m hoping better than they did last year,” he said regarding the team’s record. “If they finish at .500 I’ll be happy.”
