Gottschee Youth Take Two

The Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) soccer club went 2-1 against the NY Red Bulls in pre-academy action this past weekend, May 11 and 12.

In U13, the two top-ranked teams in the country matched up. BWG took a lead into the half on a Matteo Ritaccio goal thanks to good work by Tim Weah. In the second half, BWG’s dominant ball possession paid off with a quality finish from DJ Cook. The Red Bulls pulled one back and Ben Peretz headed in the insurance goal for a 3-1 finish.

In U14 action, the Red Bulls raced out of the gate to a 2-0 lead in the first half. BWG made a strong appearance in the second but couldn’t get on the board.

The U15 game pitted the topranked BWG against fourth-ranked Red Bulls-BWG showed it deserves its standing with a 1-0 win. The first half was scoreless, and there weren’t many chances for either team. In the second half, big Grant Burg latched onto a cross and headed it home. Red bulls pressed for a tie but BWG held out for a deserved win.

Other Gottschee updates

BWG ’04 Blue played up in the U9A division, with an 8 a.m. start against NY Solar at Randall’s Islands on Saturday, May 11. The performance, perhaps the best of the season, led to a 7-3 win. Liam Molloy led with four goals, and two more from Damien John and one from Keanu Simpson sealed the deal. On Sunday, May 12, ’04 Blue took on the older BWG ’03 team, despite of playing some good soccer they lost 7-2.

BWG 2000 pre-academy took on FC Delco and won 7-4. Goals came courtesy of Adem Vucetovic (3), Diego Moran (2), Petr Mazanek and Ervin Derivasevic.
