Mta Worker Fatally Hit by Oncoming Train In Astoria

Died Toting Tools Near The Tracks

An MTA maintenance worker was killed on the job early last Wednesday morning, Apr. 24, when he fell onto subway tracks in Astoria and was struck by a passing train, it was reported.

Police identified the victim as 58-year-old Louis Moore of 193rd Street in Hollis.

According to law enforcement sources, the accident took place at around 3:23 a.m. last Wednesday in the vicinity of the 46th Street station on the E/M/R lines, located below the intersection of 46th Street and Broadway.

Reportedly, Moore was dragging a bag full of equipment through a tunnel passageway when he fell to the tracks. Seconds later, authorities said, he was hit by a Jamaica Centerbound E train.

The operator of the train reportedly spotted Moore on the tracks but all efforts to stop the train before hitting the victim failed.

According to published reports, Moore was then dragged several feet as a result of the equipment bag being caught by the train.

Members of the 114th Precinct and NYPD Transit Bureau responded to the scene along with EMS units, which pronounced Moore dead. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autospy.

An investigation is ongoing.
