A popular HBO series will be shutting down parts of Bell Boulevard early next week to film in Bayside.
Hit show “Girls” was the latest television show to choose Bayside as a place to film. Pink signs lined Bell Boulevard from 39th to 42nd avenues and in some parts of 41st Avenue warning residents to move their vehicles by Monday, July 1 at 7 p.m befor towing would begin. Crews will be filming the following day, the signs read.
The show was created by Lena Dunham, who also stars in the show, with help from filmmakers Judd Apatow and Jenni Jonner as executive producers. “Girls” has collected several awards and honors since debuting in April, 2012, and it was renewed for a third season in January.
FX television series “The Americans” also filmed along Bell Boulevard and at the Bayside Long Island Rail Road station earlier this year. Also in Douglaston, “The Carrie Diaries,” prequel to “Sex and the City,” filmed on the streets behind PS 98 along 41st Avenue.
Back in 1999, an episode of the Philadelphia-based “Boy Meets World” also chose to shoot the exterior of Uncle Jack’s Steakhouse on Bell Boulevard, where one of the scenes was supposed to have taken place.
