A 50–year-old man was arrested and charged with stabbing his wife to death inside their Ozone Park home early Friday, police said.
Authorities responded to the two-story home on 80th Street at about 3 a.m., and after getting inside a locked bedroom, officers found 41-year-old Josefa Sanchez, who had stab wounds to her upper torso, the NYPD said. Cops then found Adalberto Sanchez, who was allegedly holding a knife in his hand, in the next room, police said.
After Adalberto Sanchez was taken into custody, he was transported to Jamaica Hospital to be treated for a stab wound to the abdomen and was listed in stable condition, cops said. Josefa Sanchez was taken to the same hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Adalberto Sanchez was charged with second-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon, the NYPD said. The Associated Press reported that the couple’s three children fled the scene of the stabbing.
A knife was recovered, and an investigation into the stabbing was ongoing, authorities said.
