A two-alarm blaze tore through a Whitestone auto body shop Saturday night, fire officials and a community leader said.
Devon O’Connor, founder of the Welcome to Whitestone civic, said he got a call about the blaze and headed over to Whitestone Collision on 14th Road near 150th Street at 11:30 p.m.
“At first, I couldn’t tell what was on fire, I first thought it was the restaurant Villagio’s but then I got closer and saw it was coming from the back of the body shop,” he said.
“I live four blocks away and when I left my house, I was able to see smoke and heard so many sirens,” he added.
More than 100 Bravest appeared to be helping to put out the fire with some stationed on the business’ roof and others working at the back of the shop with circular saws, O’Connor said.
“The firefighters were amazing. They were all so organized,” he said.
The FDNY tweeted that the blaze was under control at about 12:20 a.m. Sunday, and O’Connor said no one appeared to be injured.
