Special Committee to Examine Shelter Plan

Board 5 Makes Full-Court Press

Since being informed of a proposal for the creation of a transitional housing facility in Glendale, Community Board 5 Chairperson Vincent Arcuri has formed a special committee to review the plan in greater detail.

The committee will focus on the prosal submitted to the Department of Homeless Services by Samaritan Village to creat the shelter for up to 125 homeless families at a former industrial site located at 78-16 Cooper Ave.

The special committee includes the members of Board 5’s Executive Committee and the chairpersons of the board’s Housing Services, Health and Human Services, Education, Zoning and Land Use Review, Environmental Services, Public Safety, Special Economic Development, Public Transportation and Transportation Services committees.

As noted in a Board 5 press release last Friday, Jan. 10, the special committee will analyze the Samaritan Village proposal for the Cooper Avenue site based on the suitability of the location, cost effectiveness of the proposal, its effect on transportation and public transit services, public safety and local health care services.
