Johanna Soto, a seventh-grader at I.S. 93 in Ridgewood, won her class tickets to see Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark on Broadway after she wrote an essay on stopping bullying as part of the United Federation of Teachers’ (UFT) BRAVE campaign. Short for “Building Respect, Acceptance and Voice through Education,” the UFT’S BRAVE campaign provides educators, parents and students with the tools, knowledge and support to be pro-active in confronting and stopping bullying. Soto’s essay was the winning piece out of more than 500 entries citywide. Pictured with Soto are Dean John Harrington (left) and teacher Subrina Cek.
