See Colorful Images Of Airport’s Yesteryear
Maspeth Federal Savings is commemorating the 75th anniversary of LaGuardia Airport by hosting a colorful window display depicting the history of the airport.
The display guides visitors through the early years of the airport with a detailed timeline, captivating pictures and postcards provided by the Newtown Historical Society.
“We are happy to host this colorful and informative display, outlining the history and significance of one our community’s busiest places, LaGuardia Airport,” said Ken Rudzewick, president and CEO of Maspeth Federal Savings.
“New York wouldn’t be what it is today if it wasn’t for our airports. One of Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia’s main goals while in office was to modernize the city’s infrastructure, and he led the effort to build New York Municipal Airport 75 years ago,” added Christina Wilkinson of the Newtown Historical Society. It’s appropriate that it was later renamed after him.”
The panels, created and installed by Maspeth Press, are on display at 56-18 69th St. in Maspeth for a limited tim.
The Newtown Historical Society, located in Queens County, was founded in 2007. This society was established to educate the public about the history of our local towns including Maspeth, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, Middle Village, Glendale, Ridgewood, Forest Hills, Rego Park, Woodside, Jackson Heights and Corona.
