Get a ‘taste of Queens’ In Flushing

Sample Fare From Borough’s Fine Restaurants

The Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC), the Queens Tourism Council (QTC) and lead sponsor Fairway Market are proud to announce that the borough’s premiere food-and-networking event, Queens Taste 2014, will take place at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, 135-20 39th Ave. in Flushing, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 29.

The reasons to attend are as diverse as the borough. Foodies can expect everything from sweet to savory; Mexican to mainstream; and crunchy to creamy. For example, La Fusta in Elmhurst is planning to bring Argentine cuisine, while Jamaica’s O Lavrador will delight with Portuguese paella.

Plus, clients of the Entrepreneur Space, a food-and-business incubator that QEDC operates in Long Island City, will be on hand with their artisan specialties, including gourmet cheesecake balls, soul snacks and designer meatballs.

Then there are the drinks. LIC’s SquareWine headlines a spirits group that includes Queens Brewery, Punzoné Vodka and Brooklyn Brewery. (Yes, some of the drink purveyors are based outside of Queens, but they all have a big presence in the borough.)

As part of the fun, clowns from the Big Apple Circus will be doing magic tricks and giving away free red clown noses to all attendees who want one. Plus, QEDC and the Queens Historical Society will host a table dedicated to showing memorabilia from the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs, both of which took place in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Finally, there’s the networking. QEDC hopes that at least 1,000 people will attend, and most of them either live in Queens or do business in the borough. The event provides an opportunity for guests to meet likeminded individuals, talk shop and exchange business cards in a friendly atmosphere.

“I look forward to Queens Taste all year,” said QEDC Executive Director Seth Bornstein. “It is so fun on so many levels. The food. The drinks. The people. The venue. The celebration.”

Queens Taste 2014 costs $100 per ticket or two for $175. Proceeds support QEDC’s ongoing efforts to attract and maintain jobs in the borough through business services, neighborhood development, the ESpace and marketing attractions through QTC and the Discover Queens brand. As QEDC is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, proceeds are tax deductable as permitted by law. To buy tickets via the internet, go to www.itsinqueens.com/queenstaste.
