U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrested a Trinidadian earlier this month who allegedly tried to sneak through Kennedy Airport with $70,000 worth of heroin hidden in his underwear.
Bernard Charles appeared nervous when officers asked to search his luggage April 1, and when they pulled him aside to a private room, they discovered 1.79 pounds of heroin allegedly concealed in his groin area, the agency said.
“This seizure is just another example of our CBP officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of these illicit drugs,” said Robert E. Perez, director of Custom’s New York Field Operations.
About two weeks earlier, Customs and Border agents arrested a man who arrived at JFK on a flight from Trinidad who allegedly tried to smuggle 7.35 pounds of cocaine inside packages of frozen meat.
