M. V.- Rego Pk. ‘flyers’ Burn Up Astoria Park Track

The St. Margaret Resurrection Ascension Flyers track team competed in the Diocesan Championships at Astoria Park on Sunday, May 18, and took home top prizes.

The boys and girls team both brought back second place trophies to Middle Village, and several Flyers also won individual and relay team honors at the competition.

Winning Gold Medals for the boys were: Owen Kelly, James Burns, Ricky Hubert and Seamus Girdusky in the bantam 800 medley.

Also winning gold were Ethan Kurtz, bantam 100 meters; Brian Kelly; junior long jump and Brian Heriera, novice long jump.

The girls gold medalists were; Alyssa Lynaugh, Nina Allen, and Keri Ann Koenig in the junior and senior 400 medley, Bryanna Hurson, bantam 800 meters, Sinead Girdusky, senior 800 meters, Karolina Niepokoj, junior 800 meters and Ainara Higgins, junior long jump and Zara Nafaa, bantam long jump.

The boys and girls silver winners were Kasper Niepokoj, bantam 800 meters, John Ostling junior 800 meters, Sean Roche, Shane Rooney, Ryan Kurtz and Kevin Girdusky in the novice 400 relay. Rebecca Hurson, junior long jump, Ciara Roche senior 800 meters and Mackenzie Collins, novice 400 meters also won silver.

The boys and girls Bronze winners were; John Boger, bantam 800 meters, Johnny Robinson, junior long jump, Danny Greenwald, bantam 800 meters. Samantha Burns, novice long jump, Kaila Berry, 50 meters and Sarah Lydon, bantam long jump.

Other medal recipients were; Matthew Ciniglio, Victor Ostling, Andrew Kelly, Unai Higgins, Daniel Longear, Bailey Walshire, Shauna Hurson, Claire Rooney, Ellen Mcgovern, Fiona Roche, Olaia Higgins, Aileen Mitarotonda, Annitise Greewald and Matthew Chirarovana.

Their coaches, Jeff Boger, Mark Codd, Dennis Fey, Michael Loftus and George McCarthey congratulated the team for their effort and hard work over the season. The last meet for the flyers is scheduled for June 1, at Astoria Park.
