John Liu formally launched his fund-raising bid Tuesday night in his campaign to unseat state Sen. Tony Avella (D-Bayside).
The former city comptroller held a fund-raiser at Vivaldi Restorante in Bayside with 13 Democratic senators.
Liu’s campaign chest had more than $112,000 left in it at the end of his failed mayoral campaign.
Avella, who has not officially started campaigning yet, had $2,775 left in his campaign account at the last filing. The two-term incumbent has said he will raise more than $100,000 to take on Liu.
The former comptroller added another endorsement this week as the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators decided to throw its weight behind him.
Liu also won the endorsement of the Working Families Party last week.
