Biker Suffers Critical Injuries
A motorcyclist was critically injured after being struck by a turning car at a Ridgewood intersection last Friday afternoon, July 18, police reported.
The 40-year-old male victim was hospitalized for treatment of head trauma and other injuries, law enforcement sources said. Sources familiar with the investigation stated he did not wear a proper helmet.
Reportedly, the accident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. last Friday at the corner of Stanhope Street and Onderdonk Avenue.
According to information obtained by police, the 40-year-old male victim was riding a 2012 Ducati motorcycle eastbound on Stanhope Street when he was hit by a 2001 Buick Century.
The car was reportedly turning from Stanhope Street westbound onto Onderdonk Avenue. After hitting the motorcyclist, the driver remained at the scene.
Officers from the 104th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Paramedics rushed the motorcyclist to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
The driver, meanwhile, was removed to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Following a preliminary investigation, the driver was later issued a summons for failing to yield to another vehicle.
The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad’s inquiry into the accident is ongoing, police said.
