Pol Provides $250K For Flushing Meadows
Renovations to several Flushing Meadows-Corona Park ballfields are being powered through state funding that a local lawmaker secured, it was announced.
Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi allocated funds for the project from the Community Capital Assistance Program (CCAP), a grant provided by the state leislative body. An additional $150,000 will be contributed by Mayor Bill de Blasio, a press release noted.
The work to refurbish the fields will be completed by the Parks Department, Hevesi said. The infields will be re-graded to provide an even playing surface, grass turf will be added, with new backstops, fencing and benches installed as well. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, accessibility for disabled individuals will also be improved, it was noted.
Hevesi viewed the renovations to the park as imperative.
“It was essential for this park, which is a corner stone of Queens, to get a modern upgrade to ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere,” he said. “This upgrade will benefit our community’s youth for years to come.”
