Ride Smashes Into Stanchion In Corona

Two men were killed after the vehicle they were riding in collided with a guardrail on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) last Saturday, Aug. 2, law enforcement sources stated.

The accident occurred at 12:37 a.m. near exit 22 of the LIE, as the 30- year-old driver attempted to enter the Grand Central Parkway, authorities stated. The 2004 Subaru Impreza was traveling westbound when the driver hit the guardrail, then struck a metal overpass stanchion and finally ended on its side, police said.

Officers from the 110th Precinct, and EMS responded to the scene and found the men unconscious and unresponsive, authorities stated. They both reportedly sustained severe body trauma.

Both the driver and a male 31-yearold passenger were transported to Elmhurst General Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival, police said. Their identities were withheld pending family notification.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, police stated.

An inquiry by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing, authorities said.
