Man Indicted for Firing at Cops

Shot At Officers While Fleeing Elmhurst Scene

A Corona man was indicted for allegedly shooting at police after officers saw him chasing another individual on an Elmhurst street in June, law enforcement sources stated last Wednesday, Oct. 22.

The defendant, Christian Mosquera, 20, of Westside Avenue, was charged with attempted murder, attempted aggravated murder, first-degree attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the second- and third-degree, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

He faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted, it was noted.

Following shots fired at about 2 a.m., within the confines of the 110th Precinct, police responded and allegedly saw Mosquera chasing another individual on Lamont Avenue on June 21, according to law enforcement.

After officers ordered him to drop his weapon several times, Mosquera allegedly turned and fired at least one round in the direction of the police before fleeing, Brown said.

“Every day police officers in this city put their lives on the line protecting and serving New Yorkers,” Brown said. “Two officers heard gunfire in Elmhurst and responded to the scene. They spotted a man with a gun.”

“Instead of dropping the weapon when ordered, this defendant allegedly fired directly at the police,” Brown added.

Officers reportedly recovered a loaded Ruger Mark 1 .22- caliber pistol and two rounds of ammunition near the scene at Lamont Avenue and Gleane Street, the DA noted.

Mosquera was arrested in New Jersey in August, Brown stated. He is currently being held without bail, and was ordered to return for his next court date Nov. 14, it was noted.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Michael E. Brovner of the Gang Violence and Hate Crimes Bureau, which is supervised by Assistant District Attorneys Mariela Herring, bureau chief, and Michelle E. Goldstein, deputy bureau chief.
