Civilians Help Stop Suspected Groper

Midville Man Gets Cuffed For Footbridge Attack

With the help of a few Good Samaritans, police busted a Middle Village man on Monday night, Dec. 15, who allegedly groped and attacked two women on a nearby pedestrian overpass, it was reported.

Law enforcement sources identified the suspect as 28-yearold Jaime Rada-Bayona.

Reportedly, the incident began at about 8:49 p.m. Monday night on the footbridge spanning the Long Island Rail Road’s Main Line in the vicinity of 60th Road and Van Horn Street in Elmhurst.

According to authorities, Rada-Bayona allegedly approached and then sexually assaulted a 32-year-old woman crossing the bridge. Police said the victim attempted to fight off the suspect.

Another female reportedly witnessed the attack and came to the victim’s aid; law enforcement sources noted Rada-Bayona allegedly assaulted that woman for her trouble, then fled westbound into Middle Village across the bridge.

During Tuesday’s (Dec. 16) 104th Precinct Community Council meeting in Middle Village, Capt. Christopher Manson-the force’s commanding officer-said several neighbors spotted the individual fleeing and managed to detain him until police arrived.

Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to the scene and, following questioning, took Rada-Bayona into custody on charges of forcible touching, sexual abuse, harassment and assault.

Manson stated the NYPD Queens Special Victims Squad is investigating a possible link between the suspect and two other forcible touching incidents at the footbridge earlier this year.
