Fran Drescher is holding Manhattan cruise to fight cancer

By Shanna Fuld

Queens native Fran Drescher, star of “The Nanny” is throwing a Sunday Funday party with her celebrity friends on a cruise ship to fund-raise for cancer. Called the Floating Cocktail Party Cruise, the S.S. Hornblower Hybrid will be setting sail at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 21, from Pier 40 on 353 West St. in Manhattan. For $100 online at Francruise.com or $150 at the door, anyone can be a part of the cruise.

Selfies are encouraged and cocktails will be flowing.

Drescher said it will be a wonderful way to bring in the summer solstice, celebrate Father’s Day, and best of all, the proceeds go to her organization the Cancer Schmancer movement to help families and health initiatives.

Drescher believes the best way to cure cancer is to make sure that people don’t get it in the first place. Concerned with early detection, prevention and advocacy, Cancer Schmancer is making waves in all three of these departments. In addition to bringing awareness and funding to the cancer movement, Drescher, an icon in the gay community, is also using the night to start off Gay Pride Week in a fun way.

Drescher, a cancer survivor herself, will be celebrating 15 years of wellness on the cruise.

“I’m very grateful and I’ve turned my pain into purpose and lemons into lemonade, which helps to make sense out of the senseless,” she said.
