Borough gets first Apple Store with grand opening at Queens Center mall

By Bill Parry

The borough’s first Apple store will open at the Queens Center mall Saturday at 10 a.m. The first 1,000 customers to the store, located at 90-15 Queens Blvd. in Elmhurst, will receive a free commemorative T-shirt.

With a bow to the neighborhood, and the borough’s diversity, the 130 staff members will be speaking 24 different languages. Two-thirds of staffers are fully bilingual.

The new store, on the mall’s second level, will include support services at the Genius Bar, workshops, personal setup and hands-on experience with nearly 140 Apple devices on display.

The opening coincides with the start of Apple Camp across the country for children ages 8 to 12. Registration opened online Tuesday for the 3-day camp where kids can make their own movie using Apple products.

Apple will now have eight locations in New York City, but only its second outside of Manhattan.
